Salem Oregon Boudoir Photographer | It was a beautiful year!

"The strongest actions for a woman
are to love herself, be herself,
and shine amongst those who
never
believed she could."
~author unknown

I would like to thank all of my 2014 boudoir clients with all of my heart.
You're all strong and beautiful women who simply kick ass.
Seriously.
I enjoyed meeting and working with each of and every one of you.
We celebrated, we talked, we laughed (a lot), we danced, and most
importantly,we captured your beauty.

Salem Boudoir Studio | teal.

I have a new backdrop in my studio. Its teal and I love it. Seriously, how beautiful does her peaches and cream skin look against this color?

This session was shot hybrid (film and digital) using a Canon 5D Mark II and a Canon EOS-3 with expired Fuji Superia 800 film, scanned by The FIND Lab.

Salem Boudoir Studio | casual studio session

I love that she brought her favorite book, her comfy socks, and
wore her glasses. I also love when I get repeat boudoir clients! This spunky woman had a
boudoir session in 2012 (you can see that session HERE), but she went for a more
glam/dolled up look. This time, she wanted something more casual and
something that more accurately represented herself on a daily basis.
I think we nailed it.

Salem Boudoir Photographer | moody.

Like most photographers, I am in love with light. I love many kinds of light, but when it comes to boudoir, this strong dramatic light is my favorite. It is what moves me as an artist. So, when the sun started blaring through the windows during this in-home session, I about squealed. I mean, seriously, just look at these images.

So, while I love shooting in my Salem studio, I also love shooting in client's homes. It's often a little bit of a challenge, which is fun for me. It also makes the session instantly personalized for the client. Their bedding, their walls, their windows, their comfort zone. I often have people say that they don't think their home is suitable for a boudoir session. Either, it's too messy, or they don't think there is enough light. First of all, messy is not an issue. I can work around the mess. I have three kids. My house is usually a mess. I get it, and I won't  judge you. I promise! As for the light, yes, it's possible for some houses to have poor light (mine actually doesn't have great lighting), but more often than not, a small window is all we need to get some beautiful and artistic shots. If you'd like to have a boudoir shoot in your own  home, but aren't sure if it'll work, I'm happy to meet you at your home so we can take a look and go over all of the questions you may have about your session. To book a session, in-home or studio, please email me at kel@kelwardphotography.com.

Salem Boudoir Studio | confidence.

Confidence. It's the sexiest thing you can wear…and this beautiful mama wears it so beautifully. We had SO much fun doing this session in my studio. Yes, she's
stunningly beautiful and voluptuous, but it's her confidence that made her session
so easy and what makes her images sing. Shot with a combination of film, I am
absolutely in LOVE with these images.
In. love.

Salem Boudoir Studio | Star Wars Themed Shoot

Yes, Star Wars.
You were thinking princess Leia, weren't you? Yeah, no way. That would be too boring. This hot, and self-proclaimed geeky,  mama wore her R2D2 swimsuit. And brought some props. Like I've said before, I love out of the box shoots and although this is still a gorgeous woman in my studio… it's most definitely  not a traditional boudoir shoot.

Salem Boudoir Photographer | bridal session in studio

I love doing bridal boudoir sessions.
A veil and some simple white lace lingerie.
That's really all you need for bridal boudoir portraits.
This beautiful bride-to-be was just perfection. I can't wait to photograph her wedding!

Salem Boudoir Photographer | Dance.

Sometimes, I turn up the music and  ask my clients to dance their hearts out. At first, they're usually like, "Uh, what?"  Then, of course, they get into it and have fun. The best part is that if you don't like the shots, you don't have to order them! Generally speaking, though, they turn out great if you just go for it.

The beautiful Porshe was no exception.
These shots are amazing and we both love them!

These were all taken in my studio, with natural light. The backdrop is new and I totally dig it. It's so fun and looks beautiful with pretty much any skin tone.

Portland Boudoir Photographer | definitely outside the box

I was over the moon when this lovely woman contacted me about doing some "weird" boudoir photos. She was a little worried that I may shy away because her requests and ideas were a little out there. Are you kidding me? It's pretty much my most favorite thing to shoot! So, with a crazy outfit, a drag queen wig, fabulous makeup, a ton of crazy accessories, an insane outfit with taped x's on across the nipples, some biker boots, a spell book, an iPod with a special play list, some killer light, and a cemetery…we set out for an adventure that was nothing short of awesome.

My favorite thing about this particular shot (well, after the lighting) is that she looks like Elizabeth Taylor! You see it too, don't you?

Like I said, some crazy (as in, crazy-awesome) accessories.

The whole look she was rocking lended itself beautifully to the light here.

Then she rocked this amazing silhouette. Seriously, the more a client "brings it" to the session, the better the images are. Even if you have to fake it, it'll pay off in the end.
She, of course, didn't have to fake it. She is just seriously full of awesome.

Yes, that's a real human hand.

I was totally digging the feather collar/skirt she brought.

Sometimes you just have to dance. At the cemetery.

Just a little voodoo magic.

This is one of my favorite shots. The use of a slow shutter speed really helped capture some ghostly like movement, while she danced around.

Did I also mention the crazy props? Yes, she brought amazing props.

I love how powerful this shot is. Reminds me of a superhero.

Sometimes shooting in woodsy areas like this are too dappled with light, or simply too dark. We lucked out, though, by finding little patches of light like this.

She randomly opened the book to exorcism. In a cemetery. Interesting.

I don't think we can even call this ironic.

This session was a combination of film and digital.
Film camera used was Canon EOS-3 and some inexpensive Fuji film.
Digital camera was Canon 5D Mark II.

Makeup by Colie Serhan with the Trish McEvoy line at the Washington Square Nordstrom.

If you are interested in doing a "fabulously weird" photo shoot (boudoir or otherwise), please do not hesitate to contact me. I seriously LOVE these kinds of shoots. This is the stuff that drives me as an artist! So, feel free to email me at kel@kelwardphotography.com or via phone/text at 503-939-6781. I look forward to hearing your awesome, outside the box, ideas!
